The driving positions on each car were open to the weather. These two photos show the upper driving position of a car on the lower section, parked at the lower terminus. There were two large brass handwheels, one of which controlled the brake. There was also a speedometer, protected by heavy metal mesh.
According to the notes I made at the time, there is a water tank (the large black tank visible in b044?) which is filled at the lower terminus, and is used to lubricate the rail-wheel contact on the upwards journey.
The upper driving position seen from right side.

The next photo shows the upper end of a car parked at the lower terminus of the bottom funicular, seen from left side.
